The Dancing Spider

There's a spider dancing on the rim of your mug
He's wearing a mask, but don't be afraid
Pour another round from the little brown jug
Watch for the light on the edge of the blade.
What are you drinking? I know it ain't milk
Don't matter once your mouth is full of spider-silk.

He's a bug, he's a crawler, he might be a spy
The tap-dancing spider with money to burn.
You played his casino, you're caught like a fly
Another poor loser with lessons to learn.
You're high as the tide and the tide's on the ebb,
Hopelessly tangled in all these spiderwebs.

You look in the mirror. You don't know your face
The crazy-glass cracks and just lets in the light
But it doesn't show you a way out of this place
An eight-legged dancer still holding you tight.
You've nothing to lose and it's no good to beg
They're under your skin, tiny spider eggs.

this is delightful and beautiful and true Tiel.
Loved these lines:
"You played his casino, you're caught like a fly
Another poor loser with lessons to learn."

AND
"You look in the mirror. You don't know your face
The crazy-glass cracks and just lets in the light
But it doesn't show you a way out of this place"

Danged if I'm not taking everybodies poetry personally today.

Rhian hit the points I was going to. They brought back memories.

For some reason my mind is trying to find a substitute for the spider. After several readings, I'm still not finding a personal connection. It's a great poem none-the-less. Thanks for sharing.
