Avian Graffiti

Tom McCall was the governor of Oregon from 1967 to 1975.

Dear Editor: I’m writing on behalf
of my community, which you now call
a “public nuisance”. True, it was a gaffe—
I don’t imagine Governor Tom McCall
appreciates the extra decoration
appended to his statue by my clan—
but understand: we can’t resist temptation
in form of statue, abstract, horse or man.
For better race relations, I propose
(constructive thought here, I’m not just a whiner)
that statues wear protective overclothes.
The inconvenience is surely minor.
“Impossible!” I see you looking daggers
at me, as though we pigeons all were taggers.

A revered governor. My husband just finished an interesting & engaging biography about him: Fire at Eden's Gate: Tom McCall&the Oregon Story

Well done, Tiel.

Now I can't get the image out of my head - the one where bright yellow raincoats have been wrestled onto statues in the park...
