Accidental Universe

Is universe a cosmic accident,
are stars the pips on casually tossed dice
or are we in a grand experiment
that really should be executed twice,
repeated. You and I will never know
the outcome of another trial, if any.
There may have been some bias to the throw
but are we heads or tails on God’s new penny?
We scan the skies for traces of design
and haunt the past in search of a prediction
of the future. Dependable sign
or self-fulfilling piece of wishful fiction?
No matter; every day, our daily tasks
are all the universe will ever ask.

Oh, yes. The daily tasks that spell a life. Nicely done...

"but are we heads or tails on God’s new penny?" What a great line! I love the return to everyday life at the end!
