The Illusionist

The stage magician struts his stuff in smoke
and mirrors, mocks our gullibility
and once per blue moon, lets us in the joke.
We like to think we grasp reality,
an exercise of pure futility
in worlds that shiver when a Lepidopt
flaps past. The best of our ability
can’t tell the time of day, when clocks have stopped.
The act is finished, final curtains dropped.
A flimsy scrim, a temporary set
a hoax, a Caligari cabinet
is opened for the viewers, who adopt
a pose of adoration and draw nearer
to see the universe of smoke and mirror.

Lepidopt = butterfly

Trick or not, we humans do want to see the magic.

And congrats on the book at Lulu!

Don't we all just love being tricked?

We make life a kind of magic - a delusion

can’t tell the time of day, when clocks have stopped - a great line and the final lines, too, are superb.

Funny & great rhymes.

Perhaps you are the only one in the history of literature to ever have used "lepidopt" in a rhyme (?).

Love your comment on the conjuror. We know it is all deception, but we love to pretend its magical!

Perrhaps, in some ways, WE are the conjuror too!
