Severian

God, I send You this day my dog.
He will sleep at Your door every night.
He will do what he's told to the best of his ability.
He will adore You with the utmost fidelity
of which we humans are not capable.
He will guard the gates of Heaven against Your enemies.
If You ask him, he will say he was glad to be born a dog
because You willed it.
He was a better dog than we deserved
and You are the only master he deserves.

Gosh, this one made me shed tears, remembering what a great dog our Zeus was... If any dog is guarding the gates of Heaven, he is. (But I am possibly biased here...it's always possible there may be more than one dog there).

Oh yeah, it's that Sirius myth again. Good response to the prompt.

Praise God for your faith. We are so weak and yet a simple dog is ever faithful unto death.
Beautiful!

Very good, as usual. What a dog and what a poem.
