The Taxidermist

readwritepoem's prompt this week is to draw inspiration from the writings of other poets. I've taken mine from the title of Follain's The Taxidermist (scroll down a bit to find it).

Of course it's not just taxis. I collect
all kinds (in good condition, never wrecked):
no trucks of course, but hatchbacks and sedans,
both four- and two-door, wagons, minivans
domestic and imported, new from shop
or lightly used-- not stolen, never chop
jobs. I've my pride. Look at the preservation,
on older models, professional restoration
with my own hands. What's that you say? The word
means someone stuffing skins of game and bird?
But... that's disgusting. Blood and guts! I'd panic
at the thought of touching such organic
residues. A horrid, stinking, wormy
mess that dares call itself taxidermy!

This is great--I love the completely unexpected wordplay on taxidermist. Very funny piece. The rhyme is nicely executed, very natural.
