Remembrance

No-one asks if magnets remember north,
or comets their orbits
or the moon how to wax and wane
or apples, which direction to fall.

It's only the heart's remembrance that comes under question

as if it forgets that God is the pole
the sun and center
the light we reflect
the gravitational pull at the heart of the world

or as if it forgets that God is the magnet, comet, moon, apple, heart.

Circling itself, forgetting itself, remembering itself
until the day it wakes up for good
and all the cycles of forgetting and remembrance implode into one brilliant instant—
one brilliant spacetime instance—
Now.

I love the first stanza, this series of questions that opens the poem; immediately captures me.
