Rabbit Tracks

The wire snare lies in the grass
slightly open, half-noosed shut
like epitasis without conclusion.

You can see tracks in the dew at dawn,
liquid litany of struggle and escape
written on the blue-green grass.

Poor ending for the trapper,
but the rabbit likes it fine.

Love that the rabbit got away. I hate to see animals snared in a trap. I had a dog once who got trapped and was trying to bite her foot off to get away. I cried because I wasn't strong enough to set her free. She got lose though with the help of some neighbors. And, her foot healed just fine. Have a nice day.

Thanks for your comment at Poefusion. I still have a ways to go before I finish.

I hate snares and am always on the side of the rabbit. The secodn stanza here is so lovely - liquid litany
