Dollar Tree

She saved every paycheck for college tuition
in hopes that her son would live a good life
and maybe earn more than a wage of starvation
at Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree.

Did she know it was bad when he came through the door
or offer a smile and say "How can I help you?"
to the man who would stab her to death at the store,
at Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree.

He's waiting in jail and they're sure to convict him
of murder deliberate in highest degree.
It seems that he set out to find a black victim
at Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree.

There's more to the story. Grandmother adopted
the boy that his mother was raising alone
but she can't collect on her daughter's death-benefit
at Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree.

They say that it wasn't employment-related
no business of ours, no reason to pay
a "personal matter", this murder of hatred
at Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree.

She says she'll fight it, she won't let them stop her
from sending her grandson to college some day
so give it a thought the next time you're a shopper
at Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree.

Dollar Tree Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree should be emarrassed. I don't really think that a racial motivation counts as a personal connection.

I don't shop there anyway, but I'm sure they'd just love to hear from all of us!

Not sure exactly to what this refers, but just by the tone and the repetitive line, it seems that injustice cast in diabolically innocent song is haunting some well known chain store.

Quite haunting!

There's something to think about...

I knew there was a reason I stayed out of those places.

I often wonder how insurance companies can get away with what they do! It's a shame. What a tragic story! Maybe someday soon it will have a happy ending.
