Boom Blinding Brilliance

The starburst shells flower as silent and bright
as neon tetras underwater in their tank
distant explosion of brilliance—

followed by the boom
and shattered glass scything faces
into sprays of blood-spattered brilliance—

all under the uncaring gaze of the stars
burning in the sky over a city
burning in brilliance—

boom
blinding
brilliance

I thought of fireworks. I thought of the effects of the hydrogen bomb.I thought of the everlasting birth fires of stars. I thought how sight of such grand fires can burn the eyeballs. I thought of my Australian world today burning. I thought it is a wonderful, horrific, haunting experience to connect fiery illusions and delusions.

The first stanza was beautiful and then the second stanza filled me with dread...It sounds like those explosions of brilliance weren't so brilliant after all. What a provocative write and you definitely have me wondering what you were specifically writing about!
