Spontaneity

In the mind
of a master sculptor

the most ephemeral
emotion—surprise

handfasted to
the hardness of stone.

Improbable marriage
of message and medium,

gas bubbles
caught in boulders

auroral light
pinned on silver nitrate

butterflies etched
in slabs of slate.

It still surprises me
that stone can be so
spontaneous.

I like how you captured the 'spontaneous surprise' of stone in the hands of a sculptor.

Oh this was so good!
such writing

I very much like how it is the stone that is spontaneous rather than the master's hand. His hand may guide the idea but the life in the stone either responds or it doesn't.

What an orignal take. It really surpirsed me, I had never thought about that, the spontaneity of stone. Great musings :)

Glorious spontaneity of stone - wonderful.

wonderful ... yes, the mind of a master sculpture would be able to capture a split second of spontaneous emotion

Glad you brought our attention to the spontaneity of the sculpture. Nice insight.
