A Matter of Practice

The buried seed has faith in sunlight
and so it pushes soil aside
grain by grain. Faith will not
move an atom of dirt.
It is a matter of practice. The digging
of roots is guided by their belief
in water. They split concrete, heave sidewalks,
ruin foundations and sewers blocks away
and fifty feet down--slowly. That's power.
That's practice.
