Bad Stars

"Dirty snowballs," the modern age dismisses
portents once feared by purple-mantled kings
and cowering commons. Even near-misses
by adventuring asteroids from some David's sling
hurtling head-high against Gaea/Goliath
barely get noticed. The stars have lost their grip--
perhaps. We yawn over coffee and last night's lies
masquerading as morning news, then flip
the paper over to seek zodiacal advice.
Whole medieval cities were burned down by scares
kindled by glimpses of blazing comet eyes.
Drag the bad stars from bed by their hairs
and throw them shrieking across disastrous skies--
teach folk to fear the flaming comet's stare!
