The Eye of the World

brings crepe-myrtle blossoms in spring and Tartar maple leaves in fall.
The eye of the world squeezes juice from fresh oranges.
The eye of the world ripens apricots.
Look how the heirloom rosebush hangs over the sidewalk, with people stopping and taking off their masks to smell it; all thanks to the eye of the world!
Things that wake up because of the eye of the world include but are not limited to: goldfinches, ruby-throated hummingbirds, the blues, cedar waxwings, a westerm tanager,
and the snow on Wy’east reflecting all the colors of sunrise, like a peacock’s tail if peacocks were red and orange instead of blue and green.
The eye of the world leaves me wrapped in a fluffy knit blanket
but it always comes back.
