Firedrake

You burn so brightly when you are awake.
Underestimating you is a mistake
Easy to make, for those who watch you sleep.
Fools forget, still waters still run deep,
And keep their secrets til the levees break.

Somewhere beyond the daily give and take
Where veils flutter and illusions shake
And raking winds scour clean the rocky steep,
You burn so bright.

I watch the troubled surface of the lake,
Turbulence, criss-crossed conflicting wakes
It breaks my heart, though none will see me weep.
But let these waters end their dreaming sleep
And from the deeps you'll rise, my firedrake.
You'll burn so bright.
