Rhymes With Fire

Rhymes, with fire kindled in the night
can frame-- not cage-- a tiger burning bright
or shape a portrait of your art's desire,
remake the world's scheme of things entire,
remake a dreary reader's faltering sight.

Imagination should be set a light
to guide it through the chaos of delight.
The Maenads were tamed by Orphic lyre:
rhymes with fire.

I met a dragon once upon a knight
(The knight was dead, you see-- you heard that right)
Who told me every living thing aspires.
It's not enough to simply be inspired:
discipline intensifies the light.
Rhymes with fire.
