Loop

The house is full of absence, echoing
the sun lies warm upon the silent floor.
She walks the empty halls, remembering
the way things were just three short days before.

Before-- what happened?-- no-one knows for sure
but something changed, and nothing's left the same.
And no-one now can guess what is in store
for ashes drifting round the sunken flame.

Enflamed, she searches for someone to blame.
If she could blame, perhaps she could forgive.
The bathroom mirror offers her a name--
it isn't one with which she'd like to live.

To live, forget, and maybe once more give
herself to love, to marriage, a new spouse...
Her memory drains like water through a sieve.
She knows it won't stay empty long, the house.
