The Laysan Albatross Faces Extinction

No white shadows rise to course
the rough Pacific. The nasal brag of the gooney
no longer echoes from barren atolls
in temperate latitudes once possessed
by wide-winged wanderers. Laysan sands
are laced with lead paint—
slow decline, eternal poison.
Coleridge’s curse falls now on all of us.

This is brilliant! What a powerful testament to the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and what a literary way to bring it home to the world we face today!! As usual reading your work is such a treat! My piece is a retake over a classic too!
