Five Views of a False Doorway

I.

A green bird flies into a glass door
in a flurry of feathers as tender
as elm leaves in spring.
She breaks into luminescent
fragments of song.

II.

The glass is thick and won't break, no matter how hard you bang into it. There are no walls and no roof: why don't you just go around?

III.

The street you see through it--
or reflected in it--
is not really there
on either side of the door
that isn't there either.

IV.

A green bird is trapped in the glass,
flat and screaming.
Don't you hear her? Break
that glass and let her out!

V.

The door opens.

this is really curious! I honestly didn't know what to do with it at first, but I really like it! Basically, this form is really unique to read, so I'm rather intrigued by it.

thanks for this one, sis.

I am intrigued by this poem and have read it three or four times before this comment. It appears as a series of scenes each opening into the next. Very interesting and thoughtful.

In some ways I think we are all trapped like the bird. We are searching for a way in or out depending on the perspective. Liked the form here as well. Well done. Have a nice day.

I love the ending here: so hopeful and uncertain. (I found you via the WomPo list. Hi!)

I took them as possibilities, slices of life, saw someone I have known in each. Truly enjoyed reading this one.
