Stormy Friday

We get more rainbows on those stormy days
when hail dots the ground like shattered glass.
The thunderheads that set the sky ablaze

with lightning legs that walk like drunkards-- crazed
as centipedes-- that rumble fiercely past,
beget more rainbows. On those stormy days

the sun seems bright by contrast. Sloping rays
throw arcs of color on the looming mass
of thunderheads. We've set the sky ablaze

again, my love: we're spinning dizzy, dazed
by brilliance. We're reeling from the blast.
We'll get more rainbows in these stormy days

of post-concussion ozone breath. Amazed
by flash and thunder, falling, rising fast
like thunderheads that set the sky ablaze:

we're miracles, disasters, tidal waves,
the rescue and the risk, the push and crash.
We are the rainbows on these stormy days.
We are the thunder. We are the sky ablaze.
