Ripple effects

A death in the family next door.

I didn't ask the cause. Does it matter? People are dying of ripple effects, who never had contact with the virus itself. Dying because the health care system is overstrained; because they were afraid to go to hospital, or couldn't get care for what might have been a treatable condition; dying for lack of health insurance. Lack of money. Lack of hope.

This afternoon, I'll bring them a vase of flowers from my yard. Nothing else to offer.

God help us all.
