Scapulimancy

Don’t hold back, they say. Spill your guts
but guts are easy, guts are nothing. Truth
is written in my bones.

Pull the entrails out and read them:
green wobbly bit, liver pointing north
no useful information.

If you want to know—then rack me
joint my limbs and pull the solid white
from enveloping flesh

like stones from embedding clay.

After writing this poem, I found the "ode to the body" prompt at readwritepoem, and decided it fit...

Why scapulae when you can do this sort of divination. And it's a health food and an aphrodisiac. Honest.

Really loved the line, "Truth/is written in my bones." So pithy and real.
