Version II: trochaic sonnet.
Editor: it’s certainly a mouthful,
claiming this was authored by a bird, of
unknown provenance. I’m rather doubtful.
You’ll agree that such a thing’s unheard-of?
Not to mention, that bizarre suggestion—
civic monuments all dressed in yellow
rubber raincoats! This is, without question,
brainchild of some urban-studies fellow
studying the attitudes of city
dwellers toward their urban wildlife: feral
cat and dog, raccoon and pigeon, squirrel.
True, our public parks get rather... gritty
during dry spells. Still, it’s plain as daylight:
pigeons don’t mail apologia they write.
