Ephemerality

We'll leave no letters for our kids to read.
Electrons bear our love-notes 'cross the miles.
Future biographers of ours will need
To ransack server hard-drives for our files.

Instead, this blog and others of its kind
(Forums, comments on Slashdot or on Fark,)
Preserve our thoughts and distribute our minds.
What fragile ships to launch against the dark!

For should the mighty Internet fall to
Catastrophe, or local or widespread
And silence take www,
These electronic words would be unsaid.

For who among us keeps a diary?
Reflect on this ephemerality.
