Oh shadow, where have you been hiding?
You've been away since winter's begun
and now, today, I see you striding
down the sidewalk in the morning sun.
I call you mine, but it's not me you answer,
obedient always only to the sun.
Fast-flickering, fleeting, shadow dancer,
I walk so slow where you so swiftly run.
Were you there at my life's beginning?
Where will you go when I am done?
Shadow, witness to both grace and sinning,
speak for me, in the high court of the sun.
