Of all the things I never thought could be,
this is the one I'm most afraid to tell:
I saw a woman turn into a tree.
I won't forget how strange it was to see,
the strangest thing I ever have beheld
of all the things I never thought could be.
She'd been a wandering spirit, wild and free
but when time came, she sank her roots so well
I saw a woman turn into a tree.
"It's myth or metaphor, analogy
or mere delusion, best quickly dispelled."
Of all the things I never thought could be--
well, if you're not convinced, then let it be
that I was drunk or mad when it befell
I saw a woman turn into a tree.
But if you ask me why I think that we
should try to keep more trees from being felled--
of all the things I never thought could be,
I saw a woman turn into a tree.
