This week's Poetry Thursday prompt is: broken conversations and unfinished business. I thought a pantoum seemed appropriate.
Why did you turn around and walk away?
I wasn’t done with making conversation.
I meant to tell you—oh, I meant to say...
I stammered helpless while you grew impatient.
I wasn’t done with making conversation,
important thoughts were swirling in my mind.
I stammered helpless while you grew impatient,
my racing heart had left my tongue behind.
Important thoughts were swirling in my mind,
(to me, at least—but maybe not to you)
My racing heart had left my tongue behind.
You wouldn’t wait—said you had things to do.
To me, at least—but maybe not to you
it meant so much to make my feelings clear.
You wouldn’t wait—said you had things to do
before I knew it, you had disappeared.
It meant so much to make my feelings clear.
I meant to tell you—oh, I meant to say...
before I knew it, you had disappeared.
Why did you turn around and walk away?
