Poetry Thursday: Ekphrasis.
When we were new,
we told time as it was, times as they were
but that was too much truth for you.
You let us melt.
You let us run like softened wax,
and then reshaped us to your inclination—
so now we tell the times you wish had been.
And then you abandoned us
on the empty landscape of your forgetting
to drip, dissolve, like the fading
of this dead bird’s outlines
because you cannot stand, no-one can stand
the watches, the watching, the endless watches
of persistent memory.
