Reading the space between the lines—
not the unprinted paper between lines of print
but the lines that separate
black from white
that shape each letter.
Reading the patterns of ripples,
the surface that separates water from air
that shapes the emptiness of the air.
Reading absence, reading emptiness
reading the hollows in the carved rock
reading the dark between the stars
reading the Names of God.

oh, this reminds me so much of the day my brother and I were finding pictures in the clouds and I learned that he did not look at the shapes of the clouds, but rather the spaces between them! I've never looked at the sky the wame way since.
make that the same way...
