Would I Know You

Would I know you if I wore your mask?
What would it be like to be in your place
or is that something that I shouldn’t ask?

Timid, tasting you-ness from a flask
pausing at the edge of other-space
would I know you if I wore your mask?

Drinking you like wine from oaken casks
I’d take you in an intimate embrace
or is that something that I shouldn’t ask?

Armored in a bustle and a basque
you pass through crowds and never leave a trace.
Would I know you if I wore your mask?

Breaching privacy: unwelcome task.
Would I know you if I saw your face
or is that something that I shouldn’t ask?

Am I selfish to demand to bask
in your regard, withheld like precious grace?
Would I know you if I wore your mask
or is that something that I shouldn’t ask?

Marvelous villanelle - very difficult poem to write but you did a great job! Happy MM!
