At midday the black panther moon
came stealing through the sky and ate the sun
bite by crescent bite.
The stars fled through the sudden blackness
looking over their shoulders and crying out
as white splendor burned
around the panther’s head. The sun reappeared
and gathered the weeping stars to its breast.
“There, there, children,
it’s all part of the dance.”
--for Poefusion. Inspired by the title Stung By The Splendor of Sudden Black by Mark McCowen.
Lagniappe: my very first poem, uttered spontaneously on seeing a solar eclipse, at the age of... six?
Black and white and blue
and on the horizon a sunset hue.

Your poem is a mythical, magical and delightful read. I simply love the words evoked from you with this title. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.
Love how you added your six year old words to this post. I think it adds something quiet special.
Your poem evokes the mythos around an eclipse. The language is rich and wonderful.
I really like the imagery here. You've caught the majesty. Six-year-old you knew it too.
