I've submitted plenty of individual poems to contests, but never a book. And I don't think I'm going to. Not so much on the basis of this story and others like it, as that I agree with the Blind Chatelaine's comments about the economics of publishing poetry. In the age of print-on-demand micropresses, book contests just don't make as much sense.
