above red cliffs. grasshoppers whir
as i lick blackberry juice from stained
fingers. they say
if you can see far
it's because you're standing on my shoulders
your mother's shoulders
my mother is a giant and her voice
is grasshoppers
--for Miss Rumphius' Poetry Stretch. Note that according to the exercise, this should really be a 10-line poem. But why write an extra line if you've said everything you need to?
