cold black air
rises from an open well
and there's a giant down there breathing
breathing
water sound echoes
mossy hair
on the backs of his hands
gleam of water
on the curved surface of his eyeball
splash of the bucket
breaking through the cornea
draw it up full of aqueous humor
drink from a tin dipper and listen to the
breathing

Oh, wow, it IS like that, isn't it? Love the eyeball and the cornea and the breathing, breathing!
"gleam of water
on the curved surface of his eyeball"
that is perfect!
