I Swim With My Eyes Closed

I swim with my eyes closed
feeling my way with the senses of fish—
sparks dance along my nerves.
I swim with my eyes closed
seeing through the transparent lids—
my flesh is glass, I cast no shadow.
With my eyes closed, I swim
ignored by the solid, the shadow-casters
whose dream I am.

Surreal and beautiful! I wrote to this image too. Why don't you check it out? I don't think you've ever visited my site or read my poems, although I've read yours many times. Maybe you'd be pleasantly surprised.

Tiel -

I really enjoyed the vision you created with this piece...

"my flesh is glass, I cast no shadow." That spoke strongly to the feeling of being 'invisible', unnoticed, that we all likely feel at times.

Well written... ;)

I like the idea of the shadow casters and the thought that she was in their dream.

Delightful and strangely moving, and a perfect accompaniment to the image. My favorite phrase: "feeling my way with the senses of fish" -- I like the way it sounds when I say it aloud.

I never noticed that she cast no shadow until I read your piece! It does make her so much more like a dream.
