Sandalled Ghosts

See how the slash of the highway undulates
over nightmare horizons. Once the Roman legions
marched here. Other peoples knuckled under
and testified to the greatness of Caesar--
which proved fragile.

Now the exiles of Rome, in memory
of halcyon days of empire without restraint
whisper prayers in foreign temples, tongues
parched for a taste of home. A thirst that
transcends time.

Among the Audis on the autobahn,
you still can glimpse a distant file of
sandalled ghosts.

A ghostly poem. (Well done with the wordle words.) Makes you think of what ancients once "ruled" where you are standing now.

Oooh....I love this. You words called up these sandalled ghosts to roam and dance.

Works with both RWP. Beautifully. I like the meaning as well as the craft.
