How dare you impugn
my singularity. I am a changeling
spawned from a green briny pool, and there is
none like me.
The crisis became acute
in a hotel room. My mother dived
from the balcony, with a jubilant splash
of sticky white
her legs entwined with
my father's, at inhuman angles
and his little gold coronet tumbled into
the deep end.
His fairy-tale kingdom
is no concern of mine, nor her
day job at an investment banking firm.
I dive my own depths.
