Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore, who published my first book and was my guide on my first steps into the world of authorship, is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for cancer. We pray for acceptance of Allah's will.
Half leaf, half wood
the ephemeral borne up by the enduring
such stuff are we.
Half Earth, half sand
the solid married to the forever shifting
such stuff are we.
In my Father's shadow I am walking
small dark within a greater dark.
Such stuff are we.
I am a groove in my Father's palm
a seed at the center of his heart.
Such stuff are we.
Without those who came before
we are nothing. I am the least leaf on an ancient bough.
Such stuff are we.
He turns the last stone and gathers
the leaves as we fall. He returns us
to earth and wind. He gathers us
to grace.
Such stuff are we.
