He came unannounced to the party,
invited by-- no-one knows.
He brought a bottle of wine, so we all shared
got drunk
danced and sang.
What a scandal!
When morning came...
one forswore wine forever
one became a confirmed drunkard
one hanged himself from shame
one never drinks, but sings and dances all the time
one swore to go out and find our mystery guest
(whether to thank or harm, we weren't sure).
Most of us tried to put the whole thing out of our minds.
But I still wake sometimes at night
with the taste of wine in my mouth
and hear the echo of His laughter.
