So a fire-watch weekend in April has been followed by cooler and rainy weather. But almost the entire state is still officially in either "abnormally dry" or "drought" conditions. Portland and most of the Willamette Valley are in "severe drought."
It's really difficult to grasp how that can be, given how little sun we've seen in the last couple of weeks. The rain has been showery, rather than steady and soaking. Also, I suspect it's been warm enough that we are not getting snow accumulation in the mountains (haven't had a look at the snowline lately). That tends to be the real kicker in terms of water supply through the dry months.
At least we can hope that a cool and damp spring will delay the onset of fire season, and hopefully diminish the impact. We really don't need air quality issues on top of COVID-19.
I haven't been able to motivate myself to go for walks in the rain. Tsk.
