Yesterday at dawn the sky was lavender and pink
and a pale copper moon faced off with a scarlet sun
at opposite ends of the horizon.
By midday the sky was hazed white.
Dust and dead leaves scar the green surface
of the sleepy river. The restless geese
shift from one foot to the other in their sleep
while summer looks around, gets ready to pack her bags
and go.
