Booker T Plays “Summertime”

as       if       each   note   was    a        peg

from which he hangs

  dazzling drapery

    veils of gold satin

     strung with garnets

     and harp-strings

   a curtain of ruby arabesques

   billowing catenary curves

The notes hang above like fixed stars, burning.
